lost in east oakland.

My Field Trip Last Tuesday May 21 To Oakland California To See Dead Bundy And The Neat Neat Neats At Eli's Mile High Club.
my journey began as we got onto the famous bay bridge, crossing to oakland from san francisco california. it is always an enjoyable experience for me to cross the bay bridge. there is plenty to see as the sky scrapers are slowly left behind and treasure island looms ahead.

once past treasure island we find ourselves driving next to the new span, which is being built next to the old one. below you can see a glimpse of the new span. it is sad to think of this tired, but majestic old bridge being usurped by the fresh new bridge, oh well, all things must pass (oops the new bolts are bad, it may be a while before we can close the old one).

here we are coming into oakland, into the urban wasteland we wheel. through depressed neighborhoods and historic ones we slowly make our way through town...

here is the beautiful fox theater, where a couple of years ago I was very fortunate to
see buffalo springfield and gillian welch, wow.

deeper and deeper we go into oakland,  until finally, we arrive at the bottom of a million freeways, where beneath their tangled shadows...

...lies eli's mile high club in oakland california.

one of our party gets dropped off, and as the load in begins, the remainder of the group heads over to berkely for dinner...

?!?

?!?

after some transportation snafus get ironed out we have dinner somewhere in the berkely hills in a (sorry, unknown to me) plain, yet scrumptious italian joint. dinner and drinks being consumed we return (with chris in the trunk again) to eli's for some more drinks and some music...

the thirsty three are on the bill with dbatnnn tonight (as are another band I didn't see). they were excellent and the drummer is some kinda crazy star. really great.

wonderful patio.
meet me in the lady's room.
our able bar keep.

then the reason we came: dead bundy revved up their rock 'n' roll engines. tonight they play like they mean it and earn the respect of the small but rousing crowd. another success along the long hard road.

good job gents, until next time.

so, farewell to eli's mile high club in oakland california and dead bundy and the neat neat neats and the thirsty three.
sven.

p.s. thanks chris and anna!
