twenty nine reasons.

oh dear, how tired you must be.
alive in your castle but hiding in the tower.
I still see the look on your face.
as you passed so eerily by.

a summer's day is for stealing.
that's what they told you.
they really taught you to play for keeps.
but don't you know you steal from yourself?

a silver stake in my heart.
and all your friends who love you more.
wait for me to sink beneath this lighting scorched earth.
where only tears will grow.

more wine and mirrors.
and may you never grow old.
or ever take your glasses off to see.
as for me? nothing but a dream...

our lady of the manor.
what shall we do it's tuesday?
with nothing but gold and dahlias to surround you.
and your mind so slowly, slowly spinning.
sven.

like any other night.
wondering about you.

wish I was here.

somewhere in the west.
what a ride.
wish I was here.

january sunrise.

left alone now for years.
and wondering why?
dear old friend you have always been.
but oh so silently creeping.

now dawn comes again.
and dreaming of shadows and mist.
but so unreal.
how do you expect to carry on?

what everyone says matters most.
and to the family goes your heart.
your desire and prayers.
please see me now.
sven.

the right way.

your sad hands.
or a tree that grows only on tuesdays.
remember this.

release me I'm yours.
forest on that side of a river.
awhile now that you're gone.
sven.

6.27.2014

ready wilbur?

hurry you can make it.
...your ship awaits.
faster then the speed of sound.

trees and an old wagon.
waving grass and pine cones.
you mentioned it to me, do you recall?
sven.

goedenavond minneapolis.

a sweet summer's eve in the city.
time rolls up his sleeve.
and takes the clouds on their word.
how a night can change everything.

listen, listen.

listen, do you hear the rain falling quietly?
everything's fine.
wonder how it ever got like this?
a cool breeze but comfortable.

a bird seems to sing and know.
but an animal is just an animal, right?
lets get to work.
that's all that's left.

a tree that grew so slowly.
and now so wonderful.
thank you, but does it matter?
sing that song again.

do you hear that bird?
have you ever heard a song like that?
come home and rest my boy.
you've run down that road so long.

one more thing, just a cup of coffee.
mist out on the moors, like many, many years ago.
do you remember the sky then?
will they ever sing that song again, I wonder?
sven.

5.28.2014

do you have the keys to the sub?

dear sir, where are we going?
to duluth or to san francisco?
I can't stand the silence.
not yet my boy.

I remember setting out.
all of the joy and fanfare.
but now we ended up here.
and we're just older.

do you remember our best?
how we shone in the sun.
like greek gods.
but everything changed over time.

this old boat sure took some beatings.
and this tired old body too.
but you never looked better.
please tell me hello as you pass by.

the tea is cold and the cupboard empty.
is there anything to eat?
open the window I can't breathe.
but you never looked better.
sven.

mr. bojangles.

I thought I'd try to find old rex.
but ended up getting so lost.
I thought I'd never get home.
and I never saw old rex.

wait, ever listen to a song
and have to quickly shut it off,
'cause it's too painful to hear?
that's who old rex is to me.

keep on rollin' my old buddy.
and may your heart never break
from the weight of your travels and cares,
and only ache a little sometimes.

like me and rex.
we gotta find a way through.
your papers flying through the air.
follow them I cry, as you disappear.
sven.

from winnemucca to great basin.

climbing up some lonely mountain.
alone but for some old eagle.
we know each other exist.
and that is all.

as the bike slides to the east.
and the road turns to ice.
the wind and the motor the only sounds forever.
slow and easy like clouds.

do you remember easy rider?
wanna go with me?
well I guess that job's done.
were you ever there with me?

we lay down our lives everyday.
and think nothing until one day.
when we think everything.
and wait until someone tells us stop.
sven.

4.02.2014

under a burgundy rainbow.

an intense wind that heralds our arrival...
and the dreaded sand was blowing through out the day.
the sky dark and cold.
but a fever grips the lad.

do you remember what you told me?
and how that day brought us together.
it doesn't matter anymore.
does it my brother?

one last question remains.
and who knows better than you?
that the answer eludes us both.
please tell me anyway.
sven.

4.01.2014

License to Breathe.

 do you remember when?
you promised to me a gold ring?
how it sparkles.
but now it looks so old.

however there may still be time.
but what do we know?
ask your mother for me won't you?
and so many other reasons.

a child who loses his way in the forest once.
is forever lost.
so they say.
but that's only one village.
sven.
happy saint fools day.

3.31.2014

the words don't come...

the words don't come anymore or...
a twisted comic in the same room with a monk.
and a chair next to the highway.
some fellows will always come through for you.

what did they tell you?
your pardon is granted?
well the night is young and we've nowhere to go.
so the stories are told, more than once.

don't stop to think just do everything.
you should eat well too.
and try and be kind to strangers.
and think good things always.

but what remains is only the dawning.
of what was left behind.
and you always planned for so much more.
and a stranger always tells you the truth.
sven.

red oak drive.

ty do you remember that basement bedroom?
do you remember the 442 convertible that forever sat in the driveway?
what a wonderful night.
christmas eve with them and their friends.

I felt a little drunk and the weed didn't help.
I remember an older lady kept looking at me.
and there was the golden couple.
I guess he needed me too.

what a way to go old fellow.
do you remember the fun we had on the way to dallas?
golden days and golden cars.
and miles of forgotten highways.

and now you're gone.
you told me you were going to hell.
do you know everything now?
are you finally at peace?

follow me.
do you know the difference?
does a boy know how to become a man?
let's go to stacy tonight.
sven.

near paia.

western sky.
nice warm breezes too.
what a night.

2.28.2014

ghost of carroll avenue reprise.

just the simple things like a mushroom glistening in the rain.
or a trike left to rust.
how our mothers must have prayed.
for the rain on a tuesday.

he left without warning.
and left me wondering.
am I really here?
how do you get to the sea from here?

I heard her tell you the story.
but I thought she changed the ending.
feel better about it and that is how.
don't forget the important things.

do you remember all the old games?
what a treat to steal back those moments.
quick before we lose the chance open the door.
if you see me pass please don't wake me...
sven.

I wonder.

I wonder sometimes, don't you?
if we're on a rock someplace in space.
and the spires of stars surrounding us.
are like cosmic waterfalls.

if we're all brothers.
and all the same.
please don't step on my toes.
and let us move along on our way.

if a girl kissed you.
and your friend told you a lie.
what do you know about being a father?
or a son to a preacher man.

what is the right light to shoot in?
why don't we close up shop for the day.
I feel all dusty and smooth.
and all I want to do is sleep.
sven.

sadness

I tried to make it back the other day.
you were beautiful but broken.
like we all are.
but you didn't know it.

after awhile you forgot you were living with others.
people who breathed a different air.
and couldn't wait to come home.
we tried so hard but some things may never be.

what if you simply let go?
what if you let the rain wash down your face.
and the mud splash over your shoes.
can't you see that's the only way to be?

the straight world I don't belong in.
racing for the sake of racing.
and how you said I couldn't keep up.
which is true, I guess, unless you see things from where I do.

fruit never eaten, but with good intentions.
and a still sadness over all our hours.
if we just wore different glasses.
or lived in a different time. love on ya.
